Ontario Launches Home Renovation Savings Program to Help Residents Save Money and Energy
Rebates for Renovations Include Windows, Doors, Insulation, Heat Pumps, Solar Panels, and More
TORONTO, ON – The Ontario government is set to launch the new Home Renovation Savings Program on January 28, 2025, as part of a historic $10.9 billion, 12-year investment in energy efficiency. This program aims to help families and small businesses reduce energy costs while supporting the province’s long-term energy strategy. To be among the first to access information about this program, Ontario residents can sign up now to be contacted by a Registered Energy Advisor from Energy Werx.
“As the demand for electricity continues to rise, we’re giving families and small businesses more ways to save money and energy through the largest energy efficiency program in Canadian history,” said Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Electrification. “The Home Renovation Savings Program will put more money back in your pockets, covering up to 30 per cent of the costs of energy-efficient upgrades.”
Program Highlights:
The Home Renovation Savings Program offers rebates of up to 30% for a variety of energy-efficient home renovations and improvements, including:
-
New windows and doors
-
Insulation and air sealing
-
Smart thermostats
-
Heat pumps
-
Rooftop solar panels and battery storage systems
The program will expand later in 2025 to include rebates for energy-efficient appliances such as refrigerators and freezers, providing even more opportunities for homeowners to save.
A Program for All Homeowners
Thanks to the Affordable Energy Act, which came into force on December 4, 2024, the program is inclusive of homeowners who heat their homes with propane and oil, as well as those who use electricity. This expansion ensures broader access and greater savings for more Ontario residents.
Mike Holmes, Founder and President of the Holmes Group, shared his enthusiasm: “For 20 years, I have emphasized the importance of energy efficiency in renovations. The Ontario Home Renovation Savings Program makes these investments more accessible and affordable, helping Ontarians reduce energy costs and support sustainability.”
Additional Energy Programs
The Ontario government is also introducing:
-
Peak Perks for Small Businesses: Incentives for enrolling in smart thermostat programs, offering $75 upon initial enrollment and $20 annually per eligible device.
-
Save on Energy Programs: Continued support for 12 existing programs, including those for low-income households, businesses, and First Nations communities.
By 2036, these programs are expected to reduce the province’s peak electricity demand by 3,000 MW—the equivalent of taking three million homes off the grid. The initiative is forecasted to save ratepayers $12.2 billion in electricity system costs while generating $23.1 billion in overall system benefits.
